South Carolina Physicians Engage Early in Statewide Health Information Exchange

Carolina eHealth Network, delivered in partnership with the South Carolina Medical Association, is pleased to announce statewide interest is growing in Carolina eHealth Network, the physician-led health information exchange.

Three Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) specialty practices with multiple clinic locations have signed on and committed to contributing data to the HIE, including: Greenwood E.N.T. Associates, PA, Greenwood; E.N.T. Surgeon Anthony E. Harris, MD, PA, Aiken; and Coastal Carolina Otolaryngology Associates, PA, Myrtle Beach. Ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive eye surgery specialists at Low Country Eye Associates, LLC, Bluffton have also joined the HIE.

Gregory Tarasidis, MD, Greenwood E.N.T. Associates, and chair of the HIE Advisory Committee said, “partnering with Carolina eHealth Network across our practices and the state of South Carolina, drives the common goal of delivering the best possible patient care and benefits our entire state’s medical community. We are excited to be a part of this physician-led solution.”

The Carolina eHealth Network HIE is unique and reaches beyond the simple transmission of data at the point of care. The Carolina eHealth Network offers a suite of innovative technology tools to help physicians share patient information while employing powerful analytic reports designed to help improve clinical outcomes, reduce inefficiencies, and positively impact patient safety. Participating physicians, hospitals and other providers share patient health information, including information from all providers and facilities from whom a patient has received care.

Richard Osman, MD, otolaryngology specialist in Myrtle Beach said, “we are excited to be participating in the Carolina eHealth Network. Physicians are undergoing major changes in their workplace, and we believe this is a unique opportunity for us to step ahead of the game and lead the way.”

Practices contributing and sharing HIE data and those completing the integration process will soon be sharing patient information to help improve clinical outcomes, reduce inefficiencies, and positively impact patient safety. This collaborative effort empowers South Carolina physicians and healthcare providers as they transition to new models of healthcare delivery, quality reporting, and performance-based payments. Physicians can proactively manage their patients’ care in ways that have never been possible before while also establishing efficient methods to meet changing quality reporting requirements.
